The African Immersion Group

The African Immersion program was set up this year to support initiatives within East Africa.Whilst being involved in this, the seven volunteers going will be involved in a personal journey of discovery of history, culture and ultimately themselves. A brief outline of the program is discussed below:

This July four young people from from East Africa ,joined Edmund Rice Camps WA on our younger kids camp and associated training sessions. They were also involved in various other activities arranged by the immersion group. They were immersed in Australian culture and learnt about how ERCKWA runs camps. They also taught the camp leaders & children many interesting traditions and songs from Africa that are now being used on all camps!

December this year seven ERC volunteer leaders will head to Kenya & Tanzania to support an Edmund Rice style activity program -created by some of the East Africans who visited WA.This camp will occur in Kibera (the second largest slum in Africa). This experience will immerse the volunteers in African culture and create/build on relationships between ERCKWA & ER Centre Kibera. Another large part of this immersion project will be to see and support if possible a number of the Christian Brothers initiatives in both Kenya & Tanzania.

You can support the volunteers running this project through a number of other ways including: making a donation to the group, being involved in upcoming fundraising initiatives being run by the group (Including: African night, Wine tastings, swap meets & movie nights).

If you would like any further information on the project or how to donate please ask one of the group members or KMCarnaby@edmundrice.org.

Ok Now I'm worried. No malaria pills, mossie net or other wondrous contents of that heavy bag. The baggage handlers must have refused to handle it! Is there anything I can do from this end? I will contact the Brunei air service to have a go.
I'm glad to hear that you all arrived safely and are having a great time and eating so well!
